My name is Amanda McGinnis and I have been teaching for 18 years (17 of them at the 5th grade level). I first taught at Cline Elementary, and then moved to Campbell Ridge when this school first opened. My husband and I live in Mentor with our daughter, who is a Comet as well.
We Campbell Ridge!
This year we are trying a new and exciting format for fifth grade--we are departmentalizing our instruction. This means that you will have several teachers this year who each specialize in a particular subject. Mrs. LiCalzi and I will be teaching math and social studies, while Ms. Wall and Mrs. Kelley will be teaching reading and writing. Every fifth grader will see every fifth grade teacher for something. My homeroom class will see me for math, but will see Mrs. LiCalzi for social studies, Ms. Wall for Reading, and Mrs. Kelley for writing. We are excited to get to know each and every fifth grader this year!
We have an excellent resource teacher, Mrs. Bloomfield, who will be co-teaching in each classroom and providing support/strategies to make this an excellent year for all our fifth grade students. Mrs. Walsh, a para-educator working with Mrs. Bloomfield, is also returning to work with our fabulous fifth graders this year. She goes above and beyond in all she does.
You may have heard that we scored Mrs. Michelle Augsback as our new Assistant Principal! We are looking forward to welcoming her back to Campbell Ridge. Finally, we are welcoming new librarians, Ms. Poor and Ms. McGlone, to CRES. They round out our specials team working with Ms. Burkhardt (Art), Mr. Maddy (P.E.), and Mrs. Marotta (Music).
Although you will have many teachers this year, do not be intimidated! There are a lot of advantages to this format. You are guaranteed a motor break every hour. You will have an easier time paying attention, because your environment will change that often as well. Our goal is to prepare you for middle school while still in the comfort and security of your beloved CRES.
I hope you are ready for fifth grade, because it is going to be the BEST. YEAR. EVER!
