Superintendent's Message - CCS Update - May 14, 2022

Greetings Campbell County Families,

Below is my most recent update, providing important information about Campbell County Schools.  I would like to invite you to read this information at your earliest convenience.

Board of Education Meeting:

The Campbell County Board of Education will meet on Monday, May 16th at 6:00 for its regular monthly meeting.

Please see this LINK for the agenda.

The meeting will be streamed live via YouTube and may be accessed via this LINK.

Transition Defenses:

Students in grades 5, 8 and 12 have been participating in their transition defenses.  There are three main goals of these transition defenses.  First, students are demonstrating what they have learned and are able to do in relationship to the Campbell County Profile of a Graduate and the identified skills, specific to the elementary, middle school and high school.  The second goal is to help our schools and teachers identify where we as an instructional team are strong or still weak in preparing students to transition to the next level.  Finally, and maybe most importantly, the students are provided an opportunity to practice job interview skills.  The transition defense process requires them to prepare artifacts and talk about themselves, showing how they have grown as a student, how they are able to demonstrate their proficiency as a communicator, a critical thinker, a collaborator, etc., while providing evidence of their work in front of an "interview panel."  A fifth grade student will get an opportunity to do this three times before they graduate from high school, therefore helping them to hone this very important skill before attending college or entering the workforce.

State Testing (KSA):

The Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA), which is the replacement for the former K-PREP test will begin in the district on May 9th for some students.  The testing window will run through May 27th.  Please look for notes from your child's school regarding testing and any change to schedules that may occur.  I want to encourage you to make sure that your child gets a good night's sleep the night before any testing session and to get a breakfast, either at home or at school on the day of testing.

Kindergarten Kickoff - May 21, 2022:

Kindergarten Kickoff

Finally, just a quick reminder that there is NO SCHOOL in observance of election day, on Tuesday, May 17th.

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Please reach out if you have any questions.
