The Campbell County High School Academic team is once again heading to the state tournament after winning the 9th Region Governor's Cup Championship convincingly. The team arrived before 8 AM for the tournament, and were not officially crowned champions until around 8:00 at night, the long day being due partly to pandemic technical issues. In written assessments, each varsity member qualified in at least one category for a total of ten overall. Three regional champions were recognized: Anna Morris was first in Language Arts and made the highest score in the state (with several more regions still delayed due to weather); Ethan Schnee was first in Math, currently tied for 4th in the state; Noah Coronado was first in Social Studies, currently tied for 6th in KY. The Quick Recall Team won all five matches. In the final match, arch-rival Covington Catholic took a one point lead with two questions remaining. Ethan Taylor scored a science tossup to tie the score and Noah Coronado answered the bonus to clinch the championship in exciting fashion. The FPS team took 2nd Place to also qualify for the state tournament, which takes place March 13-15. The team continued the tradition of excellence at the Regional level. This is the 10th consecutive year that the CCHS Academic Team has been the 9th Region Champion, an amazing series of successes.
