Dear Grant’s Lick Elementary Family,

It is with great excitement that I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year at Grant’s Lick Elementary! I hope that everyone has had a memorable, fun summer filled with time spent with family and friends. It’s hard to believe that it is already time to think about starting back to school, but we are excited to begin a new year and watch our Cardinals continue to grow! Our school theme for this year is “On the Journey to Learning,” and we are excited to continue on our journey to success.

As most of you already know, Mrs. Razor has accepted a position as the Executive Director of Learning in the Pendleton County Schools. While we are sad to see her go, we are very proud of her accomplishment and wish her the very best in her new role.  This position will allow her to make a difference for even more students and lead other principals to be successful, motivational leaders like herself.

I am excited to accept the role as interim principal for this school year and am confident that Grant’s Lick Elementary will continue to move forward under my leadership. In addition to having a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership, I have been fortunate  to work closely with Mrs. Razor as her assistant principal for one year and staff developer for the last four years. We share many of the same values and philosophies regarding education, and I have learned a lot from her example.  I am committed to continuing to provide the best possible learning environment for your child(ren) at Grant’s Lick Elementary.  For those of you that don’t know, not only did I get a new professional title this summer, but I also got a new name!  I married my husband, Glenn Kukla (Koo-kla), two days after the end of the school year.

As our returning families know and our new families will quickly find out, Grant’s Lick Elementary is known for its welcoming culture built on positive relationships between the staff, students, families, and the community. It truly is a remarkable place to work and learn! We have an excellent staff dedicated to putting kids first in every decision and teaching them to be successful 21st century learners. Our students are encouraged to set personal goals and celebrate their growth and success. It is exciting to walk down the halls or go into the classrooms and hear students talking about their growth and how they plan to soar even higher!

Our first event of the school year is our annual Party in the Playground, which will be held on Monday, August 15th at 6:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and their families to meet their teacher, visit their classroom, and have fun with friends on the playground! The office staff will also be available at the event to answer your questions.  I look forward to seeing you there and working with you this year as partners in your child(ren)’s education. Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime at (859) 635-2129 or via email at amity.kukla@campbell.kyschools.us.

With Cardinal Pride,

Mrs. Amity Kukla

Interim Principal
