Campbell County Technology Assistance Tool
Under each of the following criteria, select the level that you feel pertains to you at this time. Then give yourself 1 point for the Orientation level, 2 points for Preparation, and so on for up to a maximum of 4 points on each criterion. Take your total number of points as a baseline for your Implementation of Technology and set a goal as to the number of points you would like to have as a total in one year. What do you need to do to reach your target total? Write goal statements that will help you reach your target. Include these as part of your Professional Growth Plan.

Experienced and Beginning Teacher Standard
Demonstrates Implementation of Technology
Standard Statement: The teacher uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research/solve problems.

1. Operates a multimedia computer and peripherals to install and use a variety of software.
Orientation
I know whom to contact when programs need to be installed on my computer(s).
Preparation
When given step-by-step instructions, I will attempt to install software on my own.
Application/Implementation
When presented with new software, I can install it myself.
Refinement
When presented with new software, I can install it myself and teach others to do so.

2. Uses terminology related to computers and technology appropriately in written and verbal communications.
Orientation
I have access to a technology dictionary and I know how to locate it.
Preparation
I understand the meaning of the majority of the technology terms that I hear or read and can use these terms in context.
Application/Implementation
I can describe the problem(s) I have with my computer to my school technology coordinator using correct technology terms.
Refinement
I am able to read/understand the technical manuals that come with my hardware/software.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of the use of technology in business, industry, and society.
Orientation
I realize the term “technology” includes more than just computer hardware/software.
Preparation
When I visit business/industry sites, I note the presence of technology and how it is used.
Application/Implementation
I stay informed on technology issues in society via various types of media.
Refinement
I integrate the impact of technology on society into my students’ learning.

4. Demonstrates basic knowledge of computer/peripheral parts and attends to simple connections and installations.
Orientation
I know whom to contact when I need computer hardware installed.
Preparation
When given step-by-step instructions, I will attempt to install hardware on my own.
Application/Implementation
When presented with new hardware, I can install it myself.
Refinement
When presented with new hardware, I can install it myself and teach others to do so.

5. Creates multimedia presentations using scanners, digital cameras, and video cameras.
Orientation
I am aware that scanners, digital cameras and video cameras are available for my use and I know whom to contact when I need help.
Preparation
I have attended at least one training session in which I learned to operate at least one of the following to create digital images: scanner, digital camera or video camera.
Application/Implementation
I can create a multimedia presentation using self-created digital images.
Refinement
I use self-made multimedia presentations on a regular basis to enhance my teaching.
 
6. Uses the computer to do word processing, create databases and spreadsheets, access electronic mail and the Internet, make presentations, and use other emerging technologies to enhance professional productivity and support instruction.
Orientation
I know computer applications exist that would enhance professional productivity and/or support instruction.
Preparation
I have attended at least one training session in which I learned to use an application that would enhance professional productivity and/or support instruction.
Application/Implementation
I use three or more applications on a regular basis to enhance professional productivity and/or support instruction.

I can teach others to use applications that enhance professional productivity and/or support instruction.

7. Uses computers and other technologies such as interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and other distance learning applications to enhance productivity and support instruction.

I know opportunities are available for me to participate in interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and/or distance learning; and I know whom to contact for more information.
Preparation
I have participated in at least one learning opportunity that utilized interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and/or distance learning.
Application/Implementation
I plan learning opportunities that involve my students in interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and/or distance learning.

I can facilitate a learning activity which involves interactive instruction, audio/video conferencing, and/or distance learning.

8. Requests and uses appropriate assistive and adaptive devices for students with special needs.

I am aware of whom to contact when in need of assistive technology.
Preparation
I have attended at least one training session concerning utilization of assistive technology and/or I have requested the appropriate training for an aid assigned to one or more of my students.

I have been trained on Campbell County Schools acceptable use policy (AUP) and have signed my AUP contract.
Application/Implementation
I know where to find a copy of the Campbell County Schools acceptable use policy.
Refinement
I practice ethical, legal use of technology in my professional activities on a daily basis.

11. Facilitates the lifelong learning of self and others through the use of technology.
Orientation
I use technology to enrich my own learning.
Preparation
I model positive attitudes toward using technology.
Application/Implementation
I provide opportunities for my students to explore/practice new technology.
Refinement
I introduce other adults to learning opportunities available through the use of technology.

12. Explores, uses, and evaluates technology resources: software, applications, and related documentation.
Orientation
I know whom to contact when I want to explore the use of new/different technology resources.
Preparation
I investigate the use of technology resources via demo disk, CD-ROM and related periodical sources, on-line sources, and/or technology showcases.
Application/Implementation
I develop avenues of communication which afford the evaluation of hardware/software resources.
Refinement
I obtain technology equipment, both hardware and software, and determine the usability of each product based on teacher, student and curriculum needs.

13. Applies research-based instructional practices that use computers and other technology.
Orientation
I understand the term “research-based instructional practices” refers to proven methods of successful teaching.
Preparation
I know how to locate models of research-based instructional practices.
Application/Implementation
I use research-based instructional practices.
Refinement
I use research-based instructional practices that include technology, whenever appropriate.

14. Uses computers and other technology for individual, small group, and large group learning activities.
Orientation
I am aware of methods in suing technology for group instruction.
Preparation
I use multiple technologies to design lessons for my students.
Application/Implementation
I use multiple technologies when teaching groups of students.
Refinement
I provide learning opportunities which require both myself and my students to use multiple technologies in group learning activities.

15. Uses technology to support multiple assessments of student learning.
Orientation
I am aware of how technology can assist me in assessing student learning.
Preparation
I have attended at least one hands-on training session involving th use of technology to assess student learning.
Application/Implementation
I currently use technology to assess at least one area of student learning.
Refinement

16. Instructs and supervises students to practice the ethical and legal use of technology.
Orientation
I am aware of how the district-wide acceptable use policy (AUP) and copyright laws relate to my students’ learning.
Preparation
I have discussed with my students the AUP and copyright law issues that apply to learning in my classroom.
Application/Implementation
I monitor students on a regular basis to assure ethical, legal usage of technology by all students.
Refinement
I incorporate the ethical, legal use of technology in all my students’ learning.
