Going Strong Newsletter
Our community. Our schools. Our commitment.

Not over yet

With the beautiful weather outside, you can hardly blame the students for counting down the days until they are out of school. But we aren’t out yet and we are using every single day to make an impact on our students’ learning. Teachers have worked hard all year and will continue to do so until the final bell on May 23. The final 13 days are filled with activities and programs that will keep our teachers and our students busy.

Awards and more awards!

The Golden Apple/A.D. Albright Awards Banquet on May 14 will include four of our own. The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and Education Alliance have awarded Cline teacher Lucinda Muenchen and Grant's Lick teacher Patty Smith with prestigious Golden Apple awards. Only six winners were selected in this category. Each of these teachers is well-deserving of this award. We are truly fortunate to have them working with our students.

But that’s not all.

Grant’s Lick Principal Amy Razor and District Director of Special Education Marlene Jones will be recognized as nominees for 2008 A.D. Albright Awards for being an Outstanding Administrator! The winner of this award will be announced at the banquet. While we’ve known Mrs. Razor and Mrs. Jones were outstanding in their work, it is wonderful to have it acknowledged by an outside source.

All of the A.D. Albright, Golden Apple, and Academic All-Star recipients will be recognized at an awards banquet on May 14.  Anyone interested in attending can register online. This is a great honor for the teachers and says so much about the quality educators

at CCS.

Getting Fred on film

A representative from the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) and a video crew spent a day at Grant’s Lick filming Fred Strange and documenting his role as a FRED in our district. This was his chance to shine on camera and show the judges of the state FRED award why he truly deserves it. Of course he had many supporters at the school who backed up how wonderful he is and how important he is to Grant’s Lick. We won’t know the winner until the KASA conference in July but we’re confident we have a winner! The FRED award is based on the book "The FRED Factor" by Mark Sanborn. To be a FRED, you must display excellent customer service to fellow staff, parents and students and go beyond the call of duty.

Even more Freds

Fred Strange isn’t the only  Fred in town. So far this school year, I have bestowed the award on 22 staff members counting the three most recent recipients—CCHS technology teacher Aaron Hunt, CCHS cafeteria worker Pam Schneider and Reiley art teacher Kristina Jenny. Each of them have proven they are willing to give more of themselves than required to make the schools a better place for staff and students. They, like all our Freds, are a great source of price for our schools and our district as a whole.

Calendar

Our district calendar is crowded with events. As the year draws to a close, many of the events being held will showcase our students’ growth and reward them for a job well done. It would be a tremendous disappointment if a child or parent missed one of those events because they weren’t aware of the date or time. Please be sure to check the online calendar or check with your school on when your events will be help.  Make sure to mark your calendar with  all of the dates important to you. If you know of other events that should be added to the calendar, please contact us.
