Looking ahead
I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday and your new year has started happily. Though many people are not good at making New Year’s resolutions, we at Campbell County Schools have resolved to work even harder in 2008 for the betterment of our schools and the education of our students. We are making great gains but we will continue to do Whatever It Takes for our students to achieve even more.
Youth sports thriving
After the great success and growth of our youth football program this past season, I was hopeful our youth basketball program could be as successful. I haven’t been let down. More than 600 elementary and middle school students are playing basketball this season. Volunteer coaches are making it possible for these students to learn the game in an environment that puts more emphasis on learning the game and learning good sportsmanship than it does winning. This is a great opportunity for the students and the district. I’m excited to watch our youth athletic programs grow . Youth track and waffle ball programs are expected to be added this spring.
Registrations online
The time for kindergarten and preschool registration is quickly approaching. For the first time, all of the needed forms are available online. Parents can print the forms and fill them out at home to make the process more user friendly. Kindergarten registration will be held at the elementary schools the week of March 3. Please check the Web site for specific times. Anyone hoping to enroll a preschool child should contact the preschool department at 448-2436 to set up an appointment.

Fred frenzy
Each week we give out more Fred awards to our much-deserving staff who have gone above and beyond their job descriptions to make the life of someone else a little better. Our latest award winners are Officer Jim Sticklen and Mary Mucker at Campbell County Middle School. This has quickly become a favorite part of my job and I’m happy to say the more awards we give out the more nominations we receive. Still, I know there are many others on staff who go above and beyond who we haven’t heard about yet. Do you know someone you think is deserving? Let us know who they are.
The FRED award was inspired by the book, “The Fred Factor” by Mark Sanborn who recently sent a note of praise for the recognition we are doing in Campbell County Schools.
Singing their praises
Campbell County High School sophomore Kaitlyn Carr and senior Dillon Smallwood were selected as members of this year's All-State Choir. The pair beat our hundreds of other students to become part of the select group. They will travel to Louisville with Choir Director Bob Myers in early February for the three day event which is held in conjunction with the Kentucky Music Educators Association State Convention. This is a great honor for the students and CCHS.
Calendar
The calendar is full of events including games, tournaments, meetings and more. Make sure mark your calendar with all of the dates important to you. We will not have classes on Jan. 21 in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Classes will be held on Feb. 18 to make up the first snow day. If you know of other events that should be added to the calendar, please contact us.
Decision Makers
