It's a busy time of year
We already have completed a week of elementary testing, quite a few sporting events and, of course, some rigorous classroom work. The start of the 2007-08 school year is moving along at a quick pace. The coming weeks are filled with meetings and events so I won’t expect things to slow down any time soon. The beginning month of school is such as exciting time. The students and staff are all so excited about what the year has to offer. In addition to what our students will be offered in the classroom, each of our schools offers many extra-curricular options. Research shows that students who get involved are more likely to succeed academically. Encourage your student to find something that interests him or her and get involved.

Out in the buildings
I continue to be happy with the progress I’m seeing in the classrooms. I have adjusted my schedule so I can make visits to schools each Tuesday afternoon. I am blocking this time out each week to visit schools in addition to other visits or activities. I expect to visit at lease 2 schools each week. It is my hope that these visits will give me a better understanding of what’s happening in our schools and allow me to engage with both students and staff.
Have you met a Fred?
Fred nominations are already coming in but I know there are more employees out there who are doing Whatever It Takes for our students. Let me know about them. A Fred is anyone on our staff who has gone above and beyond their job description to help a student, parent or other staff member. The nomination form is available on the district Web site. A committee will review all nominations and recognize those who have truly gone above and beyond for our students.
Here we grow again
The numbers are in and they show a gain of nearly 150 students at CCS. That is a significant increase in students for our district though it didn’t come unexpected. While we usually see a gain of 50-60 students, we were ready for a larger increase this year. Growth throughout the county will undoubtedly mean more and more students joining our district each year. Our district facilities plan shows that we are prepared to handle the growth for the next 4-5 years in all of our buildings. We are please to have them in the CCS district and look forward to even more growth in the future.
Calendar
The upcoming weeks are filled with meetings and special events. Be sure to check the online calendar as well as the sports schedules for events you may want to attend. If you know of other events that should be added to the calendar, please contact us.
