Going Strong Newsletter
Our community. Our schools. Our commitment.

Giving thanks

I hope each of you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and an even more enjoyable long weekend with your family and friends. This is such a wonderful time of year when we become mindful of the many blessings we have in our community. Most, if not all of us, have enjoyed a year in which we never had to worry from where our next meal would come or how we would pay the bills to keep our homes warm. Everyone is not so lucky. Many, some in our own school district, must worry about these concerns each day. As we enter the height of the holiday season, keep your own blessings in mind and find ways to spread those blessings to others. Dozens of charities are set up to help those right here in Campbell County. Choose one and help other families find a little of the good fortune we too often take for granted.

3 named Nationally Board Certified

Congratulations to our newest Nationally Board Certified teachers. Roseann McCafferty from the high school and Amy Mintchell and Nicole Wells from Crossroads Elementary have received their National Board certification. This is a difficult certification to obtain and shows their dedication to being great teachers. The addition of these three brings our grand total to 19 Nationally Board Certified teachers in the district.

8 others recognized for commitment

Eight CCS teachers were recognized at the 42nd annual Exceptional Children's Conference in Louisville on Nov. 19. Each was presented with a certificate and a pin in recognition of 25 or more years of diligence, service and dedication in serving students with disabilities. The recipients were: Linda Alford, Linda Cummins, Connie Dorgan, Karin Edgington, Judy Jackson, Marlene Jones, Paula Russell, and Suzanne Scott. We are so fortunate to have these experienced teachers working in the district!

It pays to praise

We know we have much to be proud of in our schools but sometimes we forget to share those proud moments with others. Campbell Ridge Elementary has been doing a good job of getting the word out about their exceptional staff and building and have been recognized twice for doing so. Earlier this month, CRES was named a Cool School by Fox 19 which broadcast from the school, and just this week Lisa Kinney, a para-educator was recognized by Q102 as an outstanding educator. For her work with the students at Campbell Ridge, she was awarded a gift bag full of goodies. I think all of our schools should follow CRES’ example and let everyone know just how great we really are.

You’re reading award-winning material

The Going Strong newsletter was awarded third place for electronic newsletters by the Kentucky School Public Relations Association. That award was one of three awards received by CCS during the awards ceremony held in Owensboro. Our district calendar placed second in the calendars categories while a photo (shown here)  taken at the Grant’s Lick Elementary’s Dancing Through History event placed third. It is good to know our communication pieces are perceived well by not only judges but by those they are meant to serve—our families and our staff.

Calendar

The upcoming weeks are filled with holiday events and school activities. Be sure to check the online calendar as well as the sports schedules for events you may want to attend.  If you know of other events that should be added to the calendar, please contact us.
