Our community. Our schools. Our commitment.

Time flies

It is hard to believe it is already June. It is always an odd feeling the first few days of summer when the classrooms are quiet. While our students are already hard at play, our administration is hard at work putting the final touches on this year and planning for the next.  I want to wish everyone a great summer break.  It has been a tremendous school year and we look forward to many more to come.  Thanks again for all you have done for the students of Campbell County Schools.

Losing a good one

After 33 years of teaching, mentoring and guiding students,  CCMS Associate Principal Tom Hervey has decided to retire. While I understand his reasons for leaving, it is difficult to watch one of our best leave our schools for good. I’m certainly not the only one who feels that way. You’d only have had to see the line of students waiting for Mr. Hervey’s autograph on the last day of school to know that he was like and appreciated by his students, staff and peers. Mr. Hervey spent his entire teaching career at CCS. We all wish him a happy retirement.

School Resource Officer voted best in state

Walking the halls of the middle school with the sole role of keeping students in line while being a mentor and a shoulder to lean on is no easy task.  Officer James Sticklen, the school resource officer at CCMS, can make it look easy though. And while we’ve known for some time that he’s one of the best, he will now have an award to prove it. Officer Sticklen has been selected to receive the Region 4 SRO of the Year by the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers. This is the third year that the awards have been presented and nominations were made by school and law enforcement administrators and officers statewide. Only those officers who are strong role models, and have provided services to their schools and communities above and beyond what is expected of their positions were eligible to receive the awards. The award will be presented during the fourth annual Kentucky Safe Schools and Communities Conference on June 19.

Getting students ready to go

For another year, the Family Resource Center will hold Readi-fest, an event that allows parents and students in preschool through 8th grade to stock up on much needed school supplies at a one-stop-shop. This year’s event is scheduled for July 31 at Campbell County Middle School. Parents who  bring their CCS students are treated to a wealth of information about the district, an opportunity to sign up for school programs and groups, and a chance to pick up many of the school supplies they will need. And it is FREE! Students can even get a haircut. This is really a great program for all of our families to participate. I encourage all of you to mark your calendars now.

Crossroads progress

continues to impress

It is such a good feeling to be confident that in 2 short months, we will be able to move into our newest facility. Progress on Crossroads Elementary continues to impress those involved in the project. Work crews are putting the final touches to the outside of the building while other workers stay indoors painting classrooms and laying tile. Many factors have helped the progress move quickly including good weather and having learned from the building of Campbell Ridge Elementary but the crews are really to be commended on the hard work they’ve put into the building. It will be a great day on August 13 when all of our schools open on the same day.

Calendar

Just because school is out doesn’t mean there aren’t events happening at the school. Check the calendar for dates of programs, events and sign-ups that you wouldn’t want to miss.
