Student Achievers

CCHS seniors Ryan Eten and Lynlee Hertzenberg were honored at the Rempke Student Achievers banquet for their hard work both in the classroom and on the field. Congratulations to the both of them for their achievements and representing CCS well.

A feel for Appalachia

The Crossroads Dance Team  and the Campbell Ridge Dulcimer players will perform this weekend at the Appalachian Festival. The dancers will take the stage Friday at 11 a.m. and again on Saturday at 9 a.m.  The dulcimers players will perform on the River Stage at 11a.m. The festival is being held at Old Coney. The dancers were also featured on the Channel 19 morning news where they performed and represented CCS very well.

A poet among us

Drea Malone, a student at Campbell County Day Treatment, received a 2nd Honorable Mention for her poem entitled “Single Mother” in the Kentucky State Poetry Society Student Contest.  Her poem will be entered in the Manningham Contest, which is a national contest sponsored by the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

Honors Nights set

Honors nights have been set at each of the schools to celebrate the accomplishments of the students. Grant's Lick will hold its 5th grade night on May 15; Crossroads, Reiley and Cline will hold their's on May 19 and Campbell Ridge will hold its on  May 21. CCMS will hold 8th grade honors night on May 22.

Running wild

Congratulations to the Reiley Youth Track Team for securing a victory at the Championship meet on Monday. The 5 elementary schools in the CCS District competed for points. Crossroads finished second with Campbell Ridge coming in third.

Relatives raising children to meet

The Relatives Raising Children support group will meet on Thursday May 8 at Reiley Elementary School, 6:30-8:00 p.m..  There will be child care and snacks.  The Campbell County Extension Office will lead the discussion.  For information or to register call Linda Cross 448-4854.

Football time already

Registration for Campbell County Youth Football and Cheerleading will be on Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, May 6, at 6 p.m. in the Campbell County Middle School Cafeteria. The program is open to all students in grades 1-6 who are registered in the Campbell County School District.

Take a shot at basketball camp

The Campbell County Coaching Staff is planning an outstanding week of basketball June 2-5 for players of all ages and abilities. The camp will have a heavy focus on individual skill improvement and team play. Each day will provide games, contests, and activities that will allow each camper to grow as a player and a person. Cost is $65 per camper (there is a discount for multiple family members) and it is available for incoming 3rd-9th graders. Camp will be held at CCMS, 8-11 a.m. each day. Rotary awards Teachers of the Year

Congratulations to GLE first grade teacher Peggy Herald and CCHS business teacher Pam Hamons have been selected as Teachers of the Year by the Campbell County Rotary. The award is based on teachers ability to incorporate community service into their curriculum and their ability to give back to the community.

Racing full speed ahead

The Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Track Meeting held April 24 left CCHS with a silver medal and 4 new school records. The girls' team finished as conference runner-ups for the first time in school history, were conference champs in 6 difference events and broke the school records for the 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x400m relay and the sprint medley relay. The runners for those events were Jasmin Hubbard, Christina Heilman, Alex Baker, Anna Carrigan, Lauren Brumley, Katie Kitchen, and Carolynn Dreyer. Way to go, girls!

CRES holding rummage sale

The CRES PTO is sponsoring a Rummage Sale in the Campbell Ridge parking lot on May 10.  Parking spaces in which to set up are $15 for the first space and $10.00 for each additional space.  Contact Jennifer Steele at 694-1011 or steele1011@hotmail.com if you have questions.

The CCHS French Club is sponsoring a Lazer Kraze Rendez-vous on Monday, May 5 from 6-9pm. For $15 you can enjoy 3 hours of unlimited laser tag play at Lazer Kraze in Erlanger. Tickets will be sold at CCHS during school and at Donkey Basketball on Friday, May 2. Students at CCMS can also purchase tickets after school on Monday, May 5. CPR training offered

CCS Health Service Coordinator Diana Taylor, RN, will teach a CPR course for anyone who is interested next Wednesday, May 7, 4-6pm at CCHS. If your certification is set to expire or you would like to be certified, please e-mail Diana about attending.

The youth Track Meet originally scheduled for Monday, April 28, has been rescheduled for today, Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m.

CCHS Drama department's production of The Importance of Being Earnest received 9 Cappies nominations, including a nomination for Best Play.

Cappies is a program through which high school students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and vote for awards. CCHS Drama is a member of the Greater Cincinnati chapter of Cappies, along with 30 other high schools.

The winners will be announced at the Cappies Gala on May 18. The nominees from CCHS are:

Not one, but TWO Golden Apples

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and Education Alliance have awarded Cline teacher Lucinda Muenchen and Grant's Lick teacher Patty Smith with prestigious Golden Apple awards. Only six winners were selected in this category. All of the A.D. Albright, Golden Apple, and Academic All-Star recipients will be recognized at an awards banquet on May 14. This is a great honor for the teachers and says so much about the quality educators at CCS.

That was quick

Just this past weekend, the CCMS varsity quick recall team was part of the "Great 8" at the Derby Festival Academic Challenge held in Louisville.  The team of Jenna Garofolo, Jared Wittrock, Clayton Truman, Andrew Perrin, Nick Dorsey, Trevor Holzschuh, Everleigh Reickhoff, and Logan Zechella, placed in the top eight teams out of the 31 schools in this year's competition. Way to go!

Are you ready to wrestle?

The Northern Kentucky Wrestling Camp has been scheduled at Campbell County High School for June 10-13. 6-9 p.m. each evening. Cost for the camp is $65 with a $10 discount for each additional family member. A $20 deposit must be placed by May 25. Click here for more information and a registration form.

Big investment

A team of CCHS students took 2nd place honors in the Kentucky Council on Economic Education's Stock Market Game. Their competition included 200 teams in the region and 724 in the state. The CCHS team, made up of Wesley Williams, Corey Starrett and Joe Vater, held the lead until the last day of competition. Their second place finishes in the region and the state earned the members $200 and priceless investing experience for their efforts.

Small Wonders

 Celebrate spring and Campbell Ridge this weekend by visiting the annual flower show at Coney Island. CRES was invited to create the paper flowers for the “Small Wonders” event at this years’ flower show. This is the first year for the inclusion of a “kid friendly” area sponsored by the Cincinnati Horticulture Society. They have many wonderful stations for the kids in the Moonlight Garden Pavilion. They have requested 1200 paper flowers which visiting children will then be allowed to pick and take home to their moms for Mothers Day! They were made by k-3 students and are beautiful. Three more FRED award winners have been named at  CCS. Reiley art teacher Kristina Jenny, CCHS technology teacher Aaron Hunt and CCHS cafeteria worker Pam Schneider. Each of them have proven they are willing to give more of themselves than required to make the schools a better place for staff and students.

Chalk it up

CCHS seniors Kayla Bodkin, Justin Franzen, Taylor Hoebbel, Lynlee Hertzenberg, Megan Foltz and Michael Hess spent the Sunday before testing adding some creative flair to the CCHS sidewalks and some incentive for underclassmen to do their best on the CATS test. The same students arrived at 6:30 a.m. on Monday morning to pass out candy to those taking the test. Way to go!

Want to play girls' soccer?

There will be a player/parent/coach Girls Soccer meeting on Thursday May 8th at 6:30 PM in the CCHS gym. All players (and parents) interested in trying out should plan on attending. Students that will be in 8th through 12th grade in the fall are eligible.

Camps encourage learning

Two camps coming to Campbell County this summer will encourage learning and fun! Camp Invention (science camp) as well as Camp ACTion (theater camp) will be held at Grant's Lick Elementary this summer. Camp Invention is open to any elementary grade level while Camp ACTion is open to any elementary student currently in 2nd - 5th grades.  For more information, see the Camp Invention and Camp ACTion flyers.

Prom royals chosen

Chelsea Lloyd and Cody Huff were selected at the 2008 Prom Queen and King at the CCHS prom. The event was held on April 19 at Paul Brown Stadium.

CCMS touts talented 7th graders

Four of the 11 CCMS 7th grade students who participated in the Duke University Talent Search by taking the SAT or ACT (same tests that our juniors & seniors take) have been invited to a state recognition ceremony at Western Kentucky University. They are: Andrew Perrin, Jared Wittrock, Callie Ball, and Ravyn Tanner.

In addition to the state ceremony, Andrew Perrin and Jared Wittrock have also been invited to attend the grand ceremony to be held at Duke University.

The third annual FFA Donkey Basketball game is scheduled for May 2 at 6 p.m. in the CCHS gym. Cost is $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Call 635-4161, ext. 3120 to reserve tickets. Riders include B105's Stat Man and a representative from Fox 19 news.

Campbell Ridge pins down competition

Congratulations to the youth wrestlers at Campbell Ridge Elementary for securing a victory in the Campbell County Youth Wrestling Tournament.  Grant's Lick finished in second with Reiley, Cline and Crossroads finishing out the order, respectively.

Studer walking on at EKU

CCHS senior Austin Studer has decided to continue his football career at Eastern Kentucky University.  He will walk on and play football there in the fall.  Austin led the Camels in receptions and receiving yardage for the 2007 football season.  The 6’3, 180 lb. Studer had 49 receptions for 986 yards and 6 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He was voted 2nd team All-Northern Kentucky, and was selected to the NKAC Division I team, Northern Kentucky Coach’s 3A/4A All-Stars, and also selected to the All-District Team.  Studer has also been nominated to play in the Northern Kentucky East-West All-Star game.  Studer has also been a standout baseball player for the Camels.

Pepped up

for state testing

Matthew Bischoff gets pepped up for KCCT testing with the help of Pounce, the Cline Panther, Who Dey the Bengal's tiger, and Principal Lynn Poe. The testing will begin on Monday and run through May 2.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a stimulating, five-week, residential summer program for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state.

Chess do it!

Congratulations to the CCMS chess team which finished 4th overall in the Queen City Chess Tournament on April 5th. Teams from 3 states competed in the event. Rayhan Akhtar placed 4th place in the 6th grade category.

The pen is mightier

Congratulations to the three Campbell Co. High School Students who entered the VFW & Ladies Auxiliary’s Voice of Democracy Contest this year.  CCHS teacher Mr. Geoff Besecker worked with these students on their speeches.  The CCHS Winners are: 1st place Ian Caldwell, who also place 6th in the 9th District’s Contest, 2nd place Hope Dischar and 3rd place Justin Sand. 

Patriot games

Congratulations to two CCMS students who entered the Campbell County Post 3205 VFW & Ladies Auxiliary’s Patriot Pen Essay Contest. Megan Rauch, an 8th grader, won 1st place and Kerri O’Halloran, a 6th grader, is the 2nd place winner from the local contest.  Both essays were sent on to the 9th District's contest where Megan placed 3rd from all Northern Kentucky Schools and Kerri tied for 14th place. Both young ladies will be honored on April 26 where they will receive their metals and a check for winning.  Megan also received a certificate and a check for winning 3rd place in the district.

Music to our ears

Congratulations go out to Johnny Herald (pictured), CCMS, and Nathan Dykes, CCHS, for competing in the 2008 Heritage Musical Festival in Chicago, Illinois, March 28-29.  Johnny and Nathan are members of the Northern Kentucky Youth Orchestra, a select organization through Northern Kentucky University. Both boys play the Bass in the orchestra. NKYO competed against 25 different ensembles from across the country. The up and coming musicians took second place in the category of youth string orchestras.  Johnny and Nathan will also be performing at their Spring Concert on Sunday, May 4th, at 4:00 pm in Graves Concert Hall at NKU. 

Fred in the final four

Fred Strange, a custodian at GLE, has been named one of four finalists for the state's Fred Award, a service award given to those to truly go above and beyond the call of duty. He was selected by the Kentucky Association of School Administrator's committee from then 40 nominees submitted state-wide. KASA plans to send a video crew to GLE on April 24 to tape footage of our Fred working and to get testimonials from staff, students and parents on why he deserves the state award. The film will be shown during the KASA annual conference in July when they announce the winner.

A penny saved

Members of the CCMS Student Council and those in Mrs. Colvin's, Mrs. Wagner's and Mrs. Altenhofer's homerooms came together on the steps of the school to celebrate the success of their Pennies for Patients campaign. The school raised $1,409.66 to fight leukemia. Those pennies saved could save a life. Way to give back!

Bodies of knowledge

Select CCHS students were given the opportunity to visit the Bodies Exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center with science teacher Joyce Wainscott. Students enjoyed the exhibit where they got a new appreciation for the intricacies of the human body.

Relatives raising children needed

The Southern Campbell County Family Resource Center and the Campbell County Extension Office are co-hosting a “Relatives Raising Children” Support Group. We will meet at Reiley Elementary, 10631 Alexandria Pike, at 6:30 p.m. Child care will be provided. 

  Different speakers will be invited each month and there will be time for you to talk and share ideas with each other.

For this support group to exist we must have participation from you and your family. Registration is required.  For more information or to register call:Linda Cross 448-4854.

CRES students embrace improv

CRES students got to take in some musical theatre and improvisation when the Northern Kentucky University Musical Theatre Troupe and Improvisation Team stopped by for a visit. The program gave students a chance to learn more about theatre, hear some great musical numbers and even take the stage to play along with the improv group.

Science fair successful

Congratulations to the winners of the first Campbell County Middle School science fair held in February. Sarah Kintner (left) was awarded first place with her experiment testing the boiling points of a petroleum and a synthetic oil. Gretchen Walch won 2nd place (right) with a behavioral study on which voice was the most soothing and preconceptions about each voice she recorded. The 3rd place winner was Sarah Baker (middle) with her test on the effects of soda on your teeth. Way to go!

Got mulch?

The Camel Athletic Boosters group is having the Campbell County Athletics Annual Mulch Sale on April 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Campbell Co Middle School. The boosters will be selling 2 cubic ft. bags of dark hardwood mulch for $3.25 picked up. The mulch can be delivered to your home for a minimum order of 8 bags. The delivered cost is from 8-29 bags @ $3.75 per bag or for orders of 30 bags or more @ $3.60 per bag. Proceeds will benefit all student athletes at Campbell Co Schools.
Please consider downloading the order form and buying your mulch from CAB. All student athletes will be encouraged to sell at least 20 bags of mulch so if you order from this form be sure to include your student's name so this order can be added to their total. The student that sells the most mulch will receive a $75.00 gift card from Best Buy.

Graduation date is set

Campbell County High School will hold its commencement ceremonies on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center.

All American pride

Congratulations to CCHS junior Dusty Brown who finished 8th in the National High School Coaches Junior Nationals this past weekend in Virginia . Over three thousand wrestlers competed for the national championship. Dusty's 8th place finish earned him All American honors in the 140 lb weight class.
