With new technology comes new problems, such as new ways to verbally abuse people without being identified, also known as cyber bullying. It is spreading across the U.S and teens mainly seem to be the victims.
Through the years the internet has become more and more popular. In addition to this, it can be accessed by almost anyone.
These “cyber bullies” are able to use something simple, like a screen name, to hide who they really are. Whether it is random sought fun or someone seeking revenge, this is a very dangerous tool.
...........About one-third of all teenagers who use
the internet say they have been harassed in some
form of cyber bullying and at least three children
between the ages of 12 to 13 have committed
suicide because of the depressing effects of cyber
bullying.
........... Some have decided to take a stand and form websites protesting against cyber .bullying. Some of these websites include .www.ncpc.org/cyberbullying and iSAFE.org . This is a .problem, though challenging, that can and must be controlled. "We have seen a few cases of this – not lots .of them," says Campbell County Principal, Renee Boots. “What students are always shocked by is that the school can discipline a student for what happens at home on a computer.  Many students think this has nothing to do with school, but the Kentucky law says that if it interferes with a student learning, we can act on it.  Also, a person who cyberbullies can be charged for breaking a law, and the school can alert the police of that matter and start that process as well.”
