The Mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and community.
More than 200 million athletes participate in Special Olympics in over 180 countries worldwide! Individuals must be at least 8 years old to compete at regional, area and state level competitions.
