Superintendent's Message

Welcome Back!

I want to welcome all students, staff and parents to Campbell County Schools for the 2018-19 school year.  The schools are in good shape as our custodial and maintenance crews have worked tirelessly this summer to get us up and running and ready to receive students.  Throughout the schools you may notice that we have re-sealed and striped some parking lots, added some new playground equipment and upgraded safety equipment and vestibules at quite a few schools, particularly elementary schools.  Safety improvements have been a focus this summer!

I spent yesterday morning welcoming our 750 school employees back for opening day and all I can say is, WOW, how great it is to work in Campbell County.  Our folks are the best!!!  Teachers and staff have participated in different training updates during the past two weeks and have been working to get their rooms ready.  Everyone I speak to is excited for the new year and cannot wait for students to arrive.

I want to ask everyone to be patient with us on the first several days of school.  Busses will take a week or so to get their routes down and there will be small adjustments afterwards as we identify ridership numbers and balance routes.  I know there has been frustration regarding pickup times and the lack of website information.  Drivers were asked to contact those whose pickup information had changed, including parents of all Kindergarten and 6th grade students. The lack of online information was intentional as a safety precaution so as not to project our routes and pickup times on the internet for predators or stalkers to take advantage of.  Yet, we still needed to do better at conveying needed information to families, and quite frankly, to our school offices.  We realize this now and we will improve upon this moving forward. I apologize for your frustration.

Also, just as a reminder, parent drop off and pickup at schools in the mornings and afternoons are always hectic the first week of school as parents and schools settle back into a new schedule and get everyone “on board” with how to drop and pick up.  This will take some time so please bear with us.

Finally, I want to share that we have been working to streamline our procedures this summer and have eliminated the dreaded enrollment forms that parents had to fill out previously on every child at the beginning of each school year.  In their place, we will print student profile sheets that we will ask you to review and update if there are any changes in your household information.  So, instead of filling in all the blanks, we just ask that you carefully review your child’s profile sheet and ONLY NOTE CHANGES that exist from last year.  Additionally, we will send home a “green” sheet that we will ask you to read over and sign, indicating your understanding of the technology AUP and access to the student code of discipline which is now available via a printed link to our website. This should speed up your document review and submission this year.

We are continuing to look for opportunities to streamline our processes.  Although some of our paperwork is mandated by federal and state guidelines, we still look for efficiencies.  If you have any suggestions to our streamlining effort, please share with me or Mr. Krummen, our assistant superintendent for operations.

Again, I want to welcome you to Campbell County Schools for the 2018-19 school year.  We are excited to serve you and your child and wish everyone the best for the coming year.
