Kentucky High Attendance Day attendance matters

The “High Attendance Day Competition” date has been set for schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for Thursday, September 20th.

Elementary, middle and high schools will compete in small or large school categories with the chance to win awards based on their attendance numbers on this date. The school in each category with the highest percentage attendance on Sept. 20 will win $500.

Please help us make Campbell County Schools a leader in High Attendance and ensure your child is attending school on the 20th and every other day of the year!

State High Attendance Day is a great reminder that all students need to be in school every day. Research tells us that a child’s attendance record is one of the strongest predictors of that child’s academic success. LET’S MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!

Crossroads Lunch Students

Crossroads Families:

We know kids love to bring their lunch from home every now and then.  Let us help you with your child’s lunches.  They just need to pick 3 of the foods we offer and one has to be a fruit or a veggie.  For example, your child can get a milk, vegetable and fruit each day to go with their lunches from home for FREE!  If there is something they don’t want then they can put it on the share table so we don’t waste food.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to call me.

Thank you

Campbell Co. School empowers students to think more about their own Safety

Campbell County Schools officials are using a grant of nearly $5 million to explore innovative ways to confront the lethal problem of school violence that have claimed the lives of students in places like Parkland, Florida. They are training students that were selected by their peers, whom are called student brokers, to talk about and teach how others how to stand up. The goal is for the student brokers to take a stand against bullying and to keep an eye out for potentially violent behavior.

Campbell Nationally Ranked – 9th time in 4 years

CAMPBELL COUNTY SCHOOLS – Campbell County School District learned this week that Campbell County High School has received yet another national ranking. CCHS was ranked as one of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” by the Washington Post with Campbell County High School ranking 9th out of all public high schools in the State of Kentucky.  Schools who are national ranked are given an index score.   The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in the previous calendar year divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies (Subs. lunch) and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E).

This is the 9th National Ranking for the NKY Campbell County School System in four years. (See rankings below).  The district is also classified as a Distinguished/Progressing District on Kentucky State Assessments.

Campbell County Receives 8th National Ranking in 4 Years!

Campbell County School District learned this morning that Campbell County High School has received yet another national ranking! CCHS received a Silver ranking from U.S. News and World Report ranking CCHS 17th in the State of Kentucky and 1606 in the nation.  A three-step process determined the Best High Schools. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using their performance on the math and reading parts of their state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.

This is the 8th National Ranking for the NKY Campbell County School System in four years! The district is also classified as a Distinguished/Progressing District on Kentucky State Assessments. WAY TO GO CAMELS!

KY Education Commissioner to Host Town Hall Meeting at NKU

Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt announced he will host a series of regional Town Hall Meetings across the Commonwealth to gather feedback from Kentuckians on how they define school success. Crossroads Destination: Success

Crossroads Families: We are very excited about our school-wide theme for the upcoming school year! We are calling our theme: "Destination: Success." The theme will allow our students to be exposed to numeous countries and cultures throughout the school year. Each classroom will adopt a country to study and present to the school through engaging projects and presentations. The students will also have the opportunity to "visit" other countries by "traveling" to other classrooms on designated "Vacation Days" each trimester.

To kick off our "Destination: Success" theme we are starting a Flat Kenny project, and we would love for your family to participate. Please print the "Flat Kenny" that you find at this link. Cut him out and take him along as you travel his summer. Take a picture of Flat Kenny and your child on a fun summer adventure. Walk Now for Autism Speaks

The students in Mrs. Mann's book club recently finished reading the book, Rules, by Cynthia Lord. The book is a heart warming story of a little girl who has a brother with Autism. The students learned valuable lessons about acceptance, diversity, and compassion. They also received valuable practice at seeing the world through others' perspectives. Reading the book has also compelled the students to help raise awareness about Autism.

They have decided that the perfect way to do that is to form a team to walk in the Autism Speaks Walk, at Coney Island on May 19th. Please join our team, or consider sponsoring us as we walk. In order to make a donation, please visit our team page,
Coyotes With a Cause. If you would like to join our team, please see Mrs. Mann in the office. Contact Mrs. Mann if you would also like to recieve an official donor, or sponsor form to begin raising funds for our team.

Our goal is to have twenty team members walk with us, and raise at least $400.

Please consider reading Cynthia Lord's book, Rules. It will change the way you see the world, and compell you to make a difference! To learn more about Lord's book, please check out of finished "GLOGS" by visiting our BLOG:

Last week Mrs. Man took six of our students to NKU's Dreamfest. The event is put on every year for Gifted and Talented students. The students are permitted to attend two or three sessions or classes that touch on or build upon their area of "giftedness." This year the conference was awesome! The sessions were very interactive and highly engaging. The students had such a wonderful time. We went to sessions about doing Math Magic Tricks, building skyscrapers, doing "Improv," making and playing with "Oobleck," building high-powered rockets out of paper, and learning about how special effects are made in the movies.

There was even a mini-Zumba session in the middle of the conference to give the students a much-needed physical break. The students learned a lot and had a lot of fun at the same time. I encourage you to talk to the students about something they learned, and give them a few minutes of class time to share something new.

College Bound

Second grade students across Campbell County Schools were treated to extra story time and a lesson in preparing for the future this week as the district celebrated American Education Week. I Know I Can by Wendy W. Rouillard is the story of three animals who work hard to achieve their career goals, while one slacks off before realizing the importance of hard work and a good education.  We enjoyed readings from Office Hyett and Mr. Cox.  The students were very receptive to the lesson and all wrote about what they wanted to be when they grow up.

Crossroad Coyotes Raise $500 for Children's Hospital Child Life Center

Crossroads Coyote Council led a school wide service learning project promoting the services that Cincinnati Children's Hospital provides with their Child Life Program.

Crossroads Coyote Council decided to sell minion grams during the week of Valentine's Day. They also sold popsicles that allowed students to purchase a popsicle and sent it to a friend displaying kindness to others. This event also corresponded with Crossroads Kindness Challenge.

A spokesperson from Cincinnati Children's Hospital came and spoke to the students at Crossroads with an interview on the morning news.

"Be it days in the hospital or hours of testing, visiting a medical center can be stressful. Our Child Life staff support your family’s visit by explaining the care process, providing emotional support, even playing with your child. We work to make your child’s experience a positive one."

Crossroads students and staff under the supervision of Coyote Council raised $500 for the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Child Life Center.

Campbell County School Receives 4.9 Million in Federal Funding for Comprehensive School Safety Work

Youth violence continues to be a significant concern in US schools, yet no study has focused on using networked school-aged peers to report and mitigate instances of bullying, peer conflict and/or school violence.  Campbell County School District was notified late last week that they have received 4.9 million dollars in funding from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to do just that.   The district pursued this competitive research grant in May of 2016 as part of the NIJ Comprehensive School Safety Initiative.  The goal of this initiative is to improve the safety of our nation’s schools and students through rigorous research that produces practical knowledge. Click here for the entire press release about this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence Parent Leadership Training Available

The Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence will bring a new parent leadership training one-day “basecamp” to northern Kentucky in April. The camp will give parents a look inside public education in Kentucky and provide them with tools to effectively engage in their children’s school, said Helen Carroll, NKY parent leadership coordinator. Since 1997, the Prichard Committee has trained more than 300 northern Kentucky parents through the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership. GCIPL is a five-day training that gives parents a deep dive into public education, including the Kentucky Academic Standards, accountability, school data and school governance.

Last year, northern Kentucky superintendents suggested that Pritchard help parents and community members become in engaged in efforts to support achievement for all students. The Prichard Committee responded to the call and created this one-day training program, open to any parent in Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Pendleton, Grant, Bracken or Gallatin counties. The training will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 29 at the Kenton County Public Library in Covington. There is no cost and meals will be provided. Space is limited, so register soon at http://tiny.cc/gciplbasecamp.
