Hour of Code Hour of Code

This week, we are celebrarting Computer Science Education Week by promoting an Hour of Code.

What is Hour of Code?

The Hour of Code is an hour introduction to computer science, designed to show that anyone can learn the basics of coding and to provide an awareness for and participation in the field of computer science. Computer science/coding helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.

To encourage students to give coding a try, the library is hosting a coding challenge. Every time a student completes one of the hour of code tutorials at the link below and brings in a certificate of completion for us to display, their name will be entered into a drawing for a robotics kit / instruction book. Ther is no limit to the number of certificates a student can earn and include in the drawing.

Local Students Earn College Credit Through Sullivan's Renowned Culinary Program

A growing number of Northern Kentucky high school students are earning college credits through their schools' articulation agreements with the renowned culinary program at Sullivan University's National Center for Hospitality Studies.

Sullivan - which opened a Northern Kentucky campus in Ft. Mitchell earlier this year - currently has articulation agreements with Highlands, Campbell County, Grant County, and Williamstown High Schools, and is working to forge similar agreements with other Northern Kentucky schools.

"Sullivan University has great opportunities and programs for high school students to take college classes at only the cost of books," said Katelyn Phillips, Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Campbell County High School. "Our students love taking the culinary arts classes offered at the high school. They get to learn trendy cooking techniques as well as operating a student-ran catering business for our school and community.

CCHS Band of Pride 7th Ranked AA Band in the Country

The Band of Pride participated in the national finals of marching band last weekend in Indianapolis. They placed 7th out of 24 of the best AA bands in the nation, and 49th overall! This means they are officially the 7th ranked AA band in the country! This is by far the highest CCHS has ever placed at a national show. The Band of Pride placed ahead of numerous state champions from across the country and several perennial national semi-finalists. The Band received a Division I rating, the highest possible rating, and a score of 76.65.

None of this would be possible without your endless support over the years. The Band of Pride has steadily grown in both numbers and achievement. Being ranked in the top 10 nationally is something that firmly establishes the Band of Pride as one of the elite groups in the nation! We are excited to keep working and seeking out new challenges and experiences for our students!

Student Parking Permits Construction
Parking permits will NOT be assigned on Monday, August 1.  We have, however, been working hard on coming up with a plan to maximize our current level of parking to accommodate the greatest number of students. We will begin by determining the total number of seniors interested in obtaining a parking pass. If you are a senior and interested in driving to school, we are asking you to contact an administrator by the end of the day on Monday, August 1. If your last name begins with A-G please contact Mr. Ritter at his email address. If your name begins with H-P please contact Mrs Young at her email address. If your last name starts with Q-Z please contact Mr. Franzen at his email address. We will follow up with a schedule of when seniors can obtain their parking passes. We appreciate your patience during this very exciting time for CCHS. We hope that as we move through this process we will have the ability to accommodate all students who are eligible to drive to school.

Please Take the Counseling Survey

Hello, Campbell County High School stakeholders, the Counseling Department here at CCHS is hoping to build on the School Counseling program that is currently in place.  One of the first steps in doing so is administering a Needs Assessment.  This Needs Assessment will provide us with beneficial information about the current needs of all stakeholders involved including students, staff, administrators, and parents alike.  We greatly appreciate your time in taking this assessment as it will help the entire counseling department.

Until the end of the year, Olivia Ballou will be here at the high school as an intern from the School Counseling Program from NKU who will utilize this valuable information as well in developing counseling groups for students.  Please provide your honest feedback.  We are looking forward to developing a program to better meet needs of students, teachers, administrators, and parents.  If you have a student who you believe may need more individualized assistance, please contact any counselor in our department or me directly at andrea.sebastian@campbell.kyschools.us.

Thanks!  Andrea Sebastian

Field Named National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Congratulations to CCHS senior Sean Field on being named a  National Merit Scholarship Finalist.  In the fall we learned that Sean was one of 16000 semi-finalists nationwide.  About 90% of those go on to finalist status, per NMSC information.  The next step will be about 8000 of those finalists being chosen for Merit Scholarship award.  However, with that aside, many prestigious institutions offer full scholarships to students who qualify as National Merit Scholars.  Being selected into this group means great opportunities for Sean are ahead.  We can’t wait to see where this distinction takes him!
