Dear Choir Parents and Students-

Welcome back! I am looking forward to the best year CCMS choirs has ever had. This packet contains a lot of important information, please take the time to go over it, and be sure to mark your calendars with the concert dates. If you have an e-mail address, please write it on the back page and return it to me. I will send out everything I give to the students electronically, and hopefully that will reduce stress for all of us. Please feel free to call the school or e-mail ( the quickest way to get a response) me anytime with questions or concerns.

Concert Schedule

We will have 3 concerts this year. All three will be in the CCHS Auditorium and will begin at 7:00 pm. All choir members are expected to attend all 3 concerts. I hope to also attend a KMEA festival (time and date TBA), the festival is usually right around Spring Break (last year we didn’t go because it was during spring break). As soon as I get the date, I will decide if CCMS will participate, and will then send home notification.

Concert Attire

All students are to wear white dress shirt with a collar and black dress pants or skirt and black shoes. Please no t-shirts or tennis shoes. If you family needs assistance in securing an outfit please contact me well before the first performance. Please adhere to the CCMS dress code when selecting a concert outfit. It is important to look nice when performing.

Concert Attendance Policy

Concert attendance is mandatory. All students are expected to attend all concerts, and stay for the entire concert. I will do my best to keep the concerts under an hour and a half. In general, all absences from concerts are un-excused. They are all worth 200 points (please see grading for additional information on grades). If a student does not attend the concert, they will receive a 0 for that grade. It is the director’s decision if an absence is excused or un-excused.

Examples of UN-EXCUSED absences:

1. No transportation (see me for assistance with finding rides)

2. Family gathering

3. Doctor/Dentist/Chiropractor appointment (please note the dates, and

don’t schedule appointments)

4. Birthday party

5. Family illness

6. Not having proper attire

Example of EXCUSED absence

1. Death of immediate family member

2. Severe illness of student

In the event a student misses a concert for an excused reason, it is that student’s responsibility to contact the director to schedule an time after school to sing the entire concert. Singing the concert is the only way to make up points. Failure to schedule a time will result in a 0.

Concert Etiquette

While at all choral activities students are expected to demonstrate proper behavior. During the concerts, student will have assigned seats in the auditorium. Students are to remain in these seats for the entire concert. Talking during performances will not be permitted. The performing groups deserve all audience members full attention. Students will not be permitted to leave the facility for bathroom or drink breaks during the concert. Proper concert etiquette states no audience member should move around during a performance. Whooping and yelling is not appropriate in a classical music setting. Please conduct yourself in a mature manner throughout the event. You are representing Campbell County Schools, we want everyone to know, this school has the best students!!

Grading

CCMS choirs will be graded in numerous ways. Every day students have 10 rehearsal points. These points will be based upon proper rehearsal technique. Students will lose one point for each component of rehearsing he or she does not exhibit. These components include

1. Singing

2. Using music

3. Not talking

4. No foreign objects (gum, candy, snacks) in mouth

5. Watching conductor

6. Proper  posture

Students may have written assessments throughout the year.

Concert attendance is worth 200 points.

Fundraising

CCMS choirs will be doing one large fundraiser this fall. I am hopeful the campaign will be successful. I am asking all students to participate. Even one item sold is better than none. . The money earned by this fundraiser will be used to purchase music and equipment for the choirs. This sale will be a prepaid sale. If you would be available and or willing to help collect and record, please contact me or indicate on the bottom of this page.

Required Materials

Every student needs to have a folder and a pencil. The folders will stay in the choir room.
